SCCA Calender came today.
My car made the February main page. Pretty sweet!
So here's a new goal added to my 2011 goals is this:
Make the 2012 SCCA calender in the same car, in it's new freakish trim.
Not a goal that takes practice, or planning, or training. Just something fun. Hopefully the look change will fool the editors. Although that same GT-1 350Z makes it every year, why can't I?
Something I'm slowly learning is over the last few years is that you can't be too serious. I really have to enjoy what you are doing, and the fact that I am able to do it so much. Last year at Nationals, I coned away 6th place on day one. My first run out would have held down 6th place for the day. I carried a funk with me the next day. And between helping my recently acquired co-driver (He needed a drive the day before runs started, and he had a good shot at a trophy), and over thinking what had happened the day before, I made what could have been an awesome day of autocross, a less than fun event. I put in some safe slow runs, and blew my third run by not driving smart. I walked away from Nationals unhappy with how I did, and how my season had ended.
So this year I plan to look at things differently. Everything is going to be a learning experience. But at the same time, I need to leave the bad runs out on course, and enjoy my time in paddock with the great people that come out to these events. I may be putting a relatively large budget into a car, but at the end of the day, I'm still fighting for a little plastic trophy.
This year, I'm going to "forget about the cookie" :)
