Trunk and Doors get the Knife (err... Angle Grinder)

Originally posted: 01-17-2011

Trunk is finished.

All the framing has been removed.  Only remaining framing is around the outside edge for strength.  Lock cylinder still remains, as I haven't bothered to go through the trouble of pulling it out.  May leave it in, may put some black vinyl over it.  Don't yet have a comparison weight, as the stock trunk is still on the car up at the body shop (should hopefully be done this weekend!).  But the final weight is 4.5lbs!

Hood is finished as well.

Again, the framing was left around the outside.  I did also leave some framing around the hood vent, as the glue holds the wire mesh in place.  For those who don't know, the stock Evo hood is actually lighter than an off-the-shelf carbon fiber one.  This hood now weighs in at 14.5lbs!

Still need some polishing and TLC, but they will hopefully look better when it's all done.  If not, well I never promised it woulds be pretty :D

Also, I would like to make a special thanks to my sponsor, Team Rip Engineering.
TRE specializes in high-performance transmission and differential work. They specialize in Evo's, 3000GT's, Subaru's and VW's.  John does amazing work, and he's just a hop and a skip away in MI, so turn around is quick.
